Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer aired on this day in 1964. Happy Birthday, Rudolph.
To me, Rudolph will always be Rudolph the Red-Nosed Ding Rear. My sister dubbed him that name thirtysomething years ago on a family recording of us singing Christmas songs together.
You simply MUST listen to this recording of my sister as she renames Rudolph. To this day, we listen to this and it puts us in stitches. Great family memories.
So to honor the famous reindeer with reddish nose, I though a few Christmas activities you might enjoy.
Rudolph Cookies
We made Snickerdoodle cookies this weekend and I found a Wilton trim decorating kit at Target for $ 4.99 that makes cookie decorating a cinch. The cinnamon in the Snickerdoodle recipe makes the cookie look like a reindeer enough so no brown frosting required!
My crew had more fun making the reindeer look a bit funny with google eyes and offset antlers. That’s the think I love about this process–you can be creative and do anything you want to-as you can see in our photos!

Reindeer Food
One of our favorite Christmas Eve gifts to give neighbors is Reindeer Food to sprinkle on the lawn for Santa’s crew. It’s not complicated either: we use lots of oatmeal, cookie sprinkles and magic edible glitter (or substitute colored sugar) to make our special concoction for the hardworking reindeer.
Our elf even got in on the action making reindeer food. I found the burlap bags at TJMaxx or you could use red or green decorative Ziploc bags or glass jars. Tie some pretty ribbon around the top and don’t forget to print the reindeer food tag to tell them what’s inside! There are tons of free printables out there. The ones we used last year were from The TomKat Studio so go check them out!
Spreading reindeer food on Christmas Eve is yet another family ritual we do, so it’s always nice to share those traditions with friends and family.
