Tongue Scrapers, Crystal Deodorant and Essential Oils, oh my! I’m Not in Kansas Anymore, Toto! Have I lost my mind? Well, that answer may be debatable, but I am definitely trying some new things. Here’s what’s on my radar right now:
Tongue Scrapers:
It’s all your fault, Claire. You posted about tongue scrapers and I thought you had gone mad. What sort of instrument of torture is that, anyway? And then I read about the health benefits and was sold.
Fights bad breath.
Helps keep taste buds from becoming blocked and enable you to better taste food.
Improved digestion results because scraping activates saliva production and promotes agni (the body’s digestive fire) to help with digestion throughout the day.
Boosts immune function by preventing toxins from being reabsorbed in the body.
Improved dental health by removing bacteria.
Don’t get too excited, Claire…I’m not going to go so far as to start rebounding or bouncing on that little trampoline like you have—2 kids later and mama can’t handle that! I do want to brag on my friends Claire and Debbie for following their dreams by launching a new health and wellness coaching endeavor called Gears in Motion. Please go check them out because they are both rock stars in my book and you will love getting to know them!
Crystal deodorant:
What motivated me to start using a crystal deodorant was reading about the dangers of aluminum in traditional deodorants and antiperspirants. Two major connections are being asserted between aluminum and Alzheimer’s disease and breast cancer. Instead of aluminum, crystal deodorant contains potassium alum, which is professed to not be absorbed by the skin. Maybe I am falling prey to a new gimmick here that doesn’t seem to pack the same punch on keeping me dry. But hey, I’m willing to try something new when faced with the spectre of breast cancer and Alzheimer’s!
Essential Oils:
I’m new to the whole essential oils trend, but already I’m a firm believer if evidenced by our overall good health especially after my husband got sick with what we suspect was the flu. Between my diffuser and using the oils topically, we have managed to best most of what the winter germs have thrown at us (except for a wicked stomach bug). I love how many of them are customized to help with different ailments: Deep Blue for respiratory problems; On Board for general wellness; and DigestZen for a rumbly tummy. (These are the names that doTERRA gives to their oils-this just happens to be the brand I first tried).
The Tornado:
Just to be clear: not everything you try out turns out to be a hit. Sometimes in trying new healthy options, you have a total BUST. Case in point–I tried the GT Synergy Kombucha drink from Whole Foods and HATED it! It was just plain nasty! Some things I just won’t be able to pull off, and this was one of them. Kinda like the tornado in the Wizard of Oz–just run away!!
Do you have any tips or products you swear by? Lay it on me–I’m open to try some new things (just not Kombucha again!)
