Why You Should Dine at Remy on Your Disney Cruise

March 28, 2017 by Sherry Boswell

You’ve probably heard of the two adults-only dining options onboard Disney Cruise Line ships, Remy and Palo. Disney cruise dining at Remy is fine French dining onboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, and Palo is Northern Italian cuisine on all four Disney ships. Yes, they are extra. Are they worth it? Absolutely! My husband and I shared a romantic dinner at Remy during our 7-night Western Caribbean cruise on the Disney Fantasy. Here’s our experience and why Remy should be on your bucket list.

Remy on the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy is a must do experience for those that love food and desire a magnificent meal.

Remember the Disney film Ratatouille? The title character is named Remy and is a gifted chef (albeit a rat). Disney Cruise Line chose to name its flagship fine dining restaurant after Remy. Simply put, this delightful dining experience had me at “bonjour” from the moment we arrived and were greeted with a red rose to our parting “au revoir.” For a romantic meal for couples, Remy is unparalleled.

Disney Cruise Dining at Remy

First question: why try Remy?

You’ve already paid for your cruise food, so why pay extra for Remy? Because it is a culinary experience and gosh darn it, you’re worth it! Actually, Remy may be a bit fancier or too French to satisfy every cruiser, but for those who really love outstanding food, impeccable service and a dining experience, reserving Remy for dinner is a MUST.

Pricing

Here are all the offerings and prices for Remy:

  • Dinner: $95 dining charge per person
  • Remy Wine Pairing Experience: $105 charge per person

These dining events are offered while the ship is at sea during cruises of 4 nights or longer:

  • Remy Champagne Brunch: $60 charge per person; $30 charge per person extra when adding the Champagne pairing
  • Remy Dessert Experience: $55 charge per person; $25 charge per person extra when adding the wine pairing
  • Petites Assiettes de Remy: $50 charge per person (includes a wine pairing with each course)–This event can only be booked onboard

Menus

The gourmet selection menus were crafted by Chef Arnaud Lallement of l’Assiette Champenoise, a Michelin 3-star restaurant just outside Reims, France, and Chef Scott Hunnel from award-winning Victoria & Albert’s at Walt Disney World Resort. No matter whether you choose from one of these tasting menus or order your own combination from the entrees categorized as Freshness, Sea or Earth, it is sure to be outstanding food.

Our 6:05 reservation meant a stunning view of the sunset as we enjoyed a complimentary aperitif of Prosecco, Grey Goose, Grand Marnier, cassis pearls, and dried pineapple. It even has a name: the Colette. What a way to start the evening!

Cheers to a French meal worthy of the splurge! The “Collette” champagne cocktail starts the meal off right.

Our server Tania was so wonderful and the perfect balance of attentive and respectful of our conversation.

Amuse bouche that looked like a fritter but in Willy Wonka fashion, it had a surprise of tomato soup inside!

Second amuse bouche: Foie gras foam with macadamia nut and salted caramel.

We chose the tasting menus: I had Gout menu created by Scott Hunnel and my husband had the Saveur menu created by Arnaud Lallement. Since my husband doesn’t eat red meat, he enjoyed the more seafood heavy menu of John Dory, lobster, and scallop. I loved it because I was able to taste all 10 dishes!

Canard: The duck was absolutely delightful.

We were also given a box of chocolates and handmade candies to take with us because we were so stuffed.

Executive Chef Benoit knows what he is doing in the kitchen-no Remy the mouse hiding in his chef hat! We were fortunate enough to chat with him at the end of our delightful meal.

How to Reserve

Online reservations are available at the following times:

Concierge Guests: 120 days in advance

Castaway Club Levels:

-Platinum Castaways (after 10 cruises): 120 days in advance

-Gold Castaways (after 5 cruises): 105 days in advance

-Silver Castaways (after 1 cruise): 90 days in advance

-First Time Cruiser: 75 days in advance

Tip: Don’t panic if you don’t score dining reservations to Remy or Palo online in advance of your cruise. The cruise holds back many spots for booking while on ship.

Plus the logistics for your family is super easy. Our teen and tween did their regular dining rotation and our servers took excellent care of them in our absence. My two were the only ones at our table of eight since other couple had Palo reservations that night and their kids ate elsewhere.
