Disneybounding at the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration

I can’t wait to share with you my wardrobe selections for the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. After all, what better place to show your love of Disney and dress like Disney characters than a Disney conference? For those of you new to Disneybounding, it’s a way to channel favorite Disney characters in your clothing choices.

As much as I LOVE to dress up for Halloween, it wouldn’t be kosher to wear a costume to a conference. That would look weird and make you stand out in the wrong way. Which is why instead of being a LITERAL character, you are inspired by the character’s aesthetic and dress similarly. It’s called DisneyBounding.

Leslie Kay created DisneyBound as a fashionista who loves Disney. DisneyBounding is when you “create looks outside of costumed or cosplay looks, which represent your favorite Disney character, while having fun with fashion.”

What I’ve found is that people are incredibly creative when putting together these looks and don’t just limit themselves to characters. Some of the best Disneybounding I have seen has been inspired by attractions like The Haunted Mansion and the iconic Cinderella Castle or even my favorite Halloween costume by my friend Ami when she dressed as a Dole Whip! Bravo!

Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is the perfect venue for Disneybounding. I certainly wasn’t the only one inspired to dress this way: there were many Minnie, Mickey, and pals to be found. Here’s how I planned my outfits and the characters and even attractions that inspired the looks.

Cocktail Party, Dinner, and IllumiNations Dessert Party: World of Color

I found my dress at a local consignment shop, and immediately thought World of Color, inspired by the Disneyland lights show (that I have yet to see-sniff-since it was closed in January during Star Wars weekend). Or you could call it my “Paint with All the Colors of the Wind” Pocahontas-inspired attire.

Paired with a Banana Republic sweater and comfortable ballet flats, I was ready for my close up…well, actually my caricature, since they had fabulous caricature artists at the Dinner Party! Of course, my artist didn’t like the fact I had so many colors on my dress, but he was a trooper and did a phenomenal job!

Conference Attire: “Mr. Smee”

Conference attire had to be comfy and on point with Disney Bounding, so I found this perfect dress at Tommy Bahama and immediately though: Mr. Smee, Captain Hook’s sidekick in Peter Pan. OK so I didn’t go quite so literally and wear a red cap, but went with a red accent necklace I found at Charming Charlie and royal blue ballet flats from GB Shoes. The dress met all my criteria: nice pattern, super cozy, and easy to accessorize.

Here I am with one of our fabulous speakers, the dynamo Vivienne Harr. I love that she also gave the peace sign.

Beach Party: “Enchanted Tiki Room”

Mickey’s Beach Bash called for cool clothing since we were outside on the beach at Beach Club. I already had the coral dress from a boutique in Greenville, paired it with a sweater, and added a multicolor necklace from Kohl’s. Only thing missing would be Jose! Or a Dole Whip 😉 Hey, we even found Tikis on the beach to pose with, so clearly the theme of the outfit matched the evening!

**Dumbo Ride and Inside Out movie time: Mickey and Minnie**

This wasn’t DisneyBounding-it was just pure and simple park attire that I would wear any given Disney Day! But to continue with a nautical look, I opted for a Disney Store Mickey and Minnie shirt, paired with Liverpool denim shorts and my trusty Mickey sparkly ears.

Mother’s Day breakfast: Jungle Book

For our final event, I went with a Philosophy floral blouse and Fleur Bleue royal blue shorts I found at TJ Maxx. Yes, you read that right–SHORTS–but they are so cute and definitely dressy enough. And hey, we were seated so for the most part, no one had a clue.(See photo for strategically placed napkin). I call this my Jungle Book look because the top just reminds me of Baloo and Mowgli in the jungle. Or you could call it Tarzan inspired. But without the loincloth!

My one big tip: notice I used a lot of similar colors so I could easily mix and match or multipurpose some pieces. That really helps when you are trying to travel with only carryon luggage and avoid baggage fees. It was a lifesaver because I didn’t need 10 different pairs of shoes.
