I’ve really got to crank out today’s Advent post because it’s only going to be December 9 for a few more minutes. Tomorrow I pledge to do better, starting with posting early in the day (novel idea!)
It may be premature to write about this song, “Joseph’s Lullaby” by MercyMe since it imagines Joseph at Jesus’s birth, but no matter. It is too good to wait. I LOVE this song. It is simple and pure and perfect. I can imagine Joseph singing this, feeling this way about his newborn baby. My favorite line says: “Lord, I ask He for just this moment/Simply be my child.” Joseph fully grasps that his Son is the Messiah, yet he just wants to have Him as his son. Listen to this song and meditate on how you would feel as a new parent with the full weight of the knowledge that your son was sent to save the world.
Go to sleep my Son
This manger for your bed
You have a long road before You
Rest Your little headCan You feel the weight of Your glory?
Do You understand the price?
Or does the Father guard Your heart for now
So You can sleep tonight?Go to sleep my Son
Go and chase Your dreams
This world can wait for one more moment
Go and sleep in peaceI believe the glory of Heaven
Is lying in my arms tonight
Lord, I ask that He for just this moment
Simply be my childGo to sleep my Son
Baby, close Your eyes
Soon enough You’ll save the day
But for now, dear Child of mine
Oh my Jesus, Sleep tight
