In case you haven’t noticed, I kinda like music. And love finding new music and musicians. Of course, now that Thanksgiving has passed and we are in full-swing Christmas mode at my house, I am blasting the holiday music and trying to discover new artists and arrangements. Lo and behold, along came a video by Pentatonix singing “The Little Drummer Boy.”Clearly, these musicians are offering their gifts by making a joyful noise to the Lord. (Dang, they can SING!) And 15 MILLION hits on their video is amazing. But here’s the backstory of this group. Comprised of 5 members, these a cappella singers are clearly talented in their own right, and they were discovered on the NBC TV show The Sing-Off. But they didn’t meet as a group until the day before the auditions. Say what? Mindboggling, right? Yet they won season 3 of the show, and now have a recording contract, the number 1 Christmas album (PTXmas) on iTunes, and are preparing for a world tour. From humble beginnings to worldwide notoriety…it’s a rags to riches story for sure. And they did it by using their God-given talents.
So if singing is not your thing, then what is? Are you great at storytelling or making people laugh? Maybe you are an encourager who always has the kid word people need to hear. Or maybe you are a leader, a risk-taker who can inspire and say the right things to motivate your colleagues or friends. Maybe you love the arts, or you are a gifted athlete. Whatever your gifts, we owe it to God to know them and use them, just as the Little Drummer Boy did. Thinking he didn’t have any material gifts to offer the new King, the drummer boy finally figured it out and offered to play for him. He played his absolute best for our Savior. And the result: Jesus smiled at him.
Use those gifts. “Little Drummer Boy” style. It just may make Jesus smile.
Have a blessed day,
Sherry
